Forages and Grass Lands
Printable Version
  • Yield and quality of ryegrass as affected by different rates of P and K fertilizers
Ryegrass is a main winter forage in Chongqing, but improper agronomic management leads to poor yield. A field experiment aimed to increase yield on the typical purple soil in the hilly area in order to provide science-based fertilization technology to large areas. Results showed that application of 375-75-150 kg N-P2O5- K2O/ha obtained high yield of 65346.3 kg/ha, and meanwhile ryegrass quality expressed as crude protein and crude fiber contents was improved.
  • Effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium on yield and quality of ryegrass
In response to readjustment of the agricultural structure, the planting areas of forage crops such as ryegrass have expanded very fast in recent years in Sichuan. The yield and quality of ryegrass, however, are still bottlenecked by irrational fertilization. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilizers on yield and quality of the grass. Results indicated that grass yield significantly increased with an increase in N and K application but not P. On the basis of PK, application of 240 kg N/ha increased grass yield by 32.4 t/ha (68.7%%)。Fertilization with N and K at the mid- and late growing stages after each harvest is particularly essential to improve grass yield and quality. The net income per unit N input was the highest (26.5元/kg N), while K was the key to obtain the highest grass yield and net income. Based on the results of this study and other experiments conducted on Chengdu Plain, the fertilizer recommendations for ryegrass are (240-300) - 60 - (90-100) kg N-P2O5-K2O/ha.
